Dog Run Foxtail Weeding Recap

On May 4, in conjunction with a city-wide dog area clean-up campaign, a dozen hearty and enthusiastic volunteers removed a considerable amount of foxtails from the Southside dog run terrace.  This invasive weed poses a very serious threat to pets.  The plant's barbed seed heads can invade the nose or burrow between the toes and inside the ears, eyes, and mouth and even dig directly into the skin.

A special shout-out to Friends of Alta Plaza Park (FOAPP) board member Stephen Henry for recruiting several friends in the effort, and our thanks to all who responded to our newsletter announcement and NextDoor posting.  SFRPD gardener Emma Theoni provided excellent project oversight.

Enjoying refreshments are volunteers Janet and Greg Goff with FOAPP board member Stephen Henry and his dog Posey, along with gardener Emma Theoni.
